Panama Beach House: Punta Barco
|
Punta Barco is one of Panama´s most
elite housing communities. It rests about an hour outside of
Panama City and is easy to miss if you don’t know what you’re
looking for. I had heard that the coastline of Punta Barco was
dotted with the most posh residences in all of Panama, so I had
to have a look for myself. While oftentimes, sneaking into elite
beach clubs can be mentally and physically demanding, this time
round I had an in.
The small dirt road that runs off the main highway reminded me
of Costa Rica.
“This road sucks,” I said. “They oughta repave it.”
“Maybe it’s to keep the riffraff out,” someone offered up.
There’s a word you don’t hear much these days, I though to
myself. Riffraff. I pictured the riffraff as some kids with
rusty bicycles in ripped clothes and dirt on their faces. “We
can’t go down this road,” they would say. “It’s got too many
holes. We, riffraff simply cannot go down it.” Then they’d
continue on their journey in search of a smoother road to
terrorize.
Casa Vista Mar is a pretty amazing Panama beach house on the
edge of a cliff—designed in the shape of a bent horseshoe, the
inner bedrooms offering delicious views of the ocean and
horizon. It has an area of about 8,000 square feet and can sleep
something like twelve people. There’s a killer pool and
perfectly shaded Jacuzzi, both of which look out over the vast
Pacific. Also, the cute little stone dining area was a jewel on
my eye. Below the house, is a private beach and the surfing
conditions appeared to be gnarly (surfer lingo for heavy or
intense waves).
I have moral issues with describing it this way, almost like
we’re talking about tinted windows in a car, but Casa Vista Mar
comes with a maid and a personal chef. The place is definitely
designed for relaxation. Contact me below about the information
of the owner, who is looking to rent it out by the week to
vacationers.
We grilled out on the patio and I had one of the best steak
sandwiches probably ever built. I slapped on some
teriyaki-sizzled steak, roasted broccoli florets, smoked
Vidalias, and an avocado-habanero chutney. It was one of the
best things I’ve ever eaten.
“Did you guys see the sandwich I made?”
“For the last time. Yes, we saw your sandwich” they said.
“But look at the way I toasted the bottom so it doesn’t get
soggy. And look at the care I used in...” At which point
someone’d raise a sharp utensil in the air, threatening me like
a ninja. “Say one more thing about your damn sandwich, I dare
you.”
“You people just don’t have any appreciation for the arts. Ya’ll
are savages.” I snarled.
Punta Barco seemed super exclusive, some of the houses the
nicest I’ve ever seen. Because the area is only about an hour
outside of Panama City, its ideal location for a weekend getaway
or even a cozy afternoon cookout on the beach. It’s about 5
minutes from Coronado—and its Fazio designed championship golf
course and equestrian club. There’s a renowned surf spot off its
coast called Teta which produces both right and left breaks;
this varies depending on the wind and water current.
In the morning I did some delightful laps in the pool, looking
out over happy little surfers bobbing in the ocean. The morning
mist off the water was fresh and clean. The house can be rented
out for around $5,000 during high season and $3,000 during low.
In Malibu or Laguna Beach where I used to live, it’s a $10
million house. Punta Barco was everything I had hoped it would
be and more. Perfect weather, delicious sandwiches, and above
all…no riffraff. Oh, and the photo at the top of this story was
taken off some site and looks nothing like the Punta Barco
house. :(
Rent it Out! if you are interested in getting in touch with the
owner of the house...
