Las Minas is one of the districts that make
up the province of Herrera located in the republic of Panama.
Las Minas is located on the higher lands in Herrera, and as
such, is mostly composed of mountain regions where you can find
the el Montuoso Natural Reserve where La Villa river, the main
river of the Azuero Peninsula, begins.
The people of Las Minas mostly live off the
land, practicing agriculture in all of its forms. There are
neither factories nor big industries in Las Minas. The
district’s main holidays are Carnival Tuesdays, where the big
square-off between the rival streets caps off in a huge
celebration from sun down to sun up. Other festivities include
the Fair of the Flower of the Holy Spirit, or “Feria de la Flor
del Espíritu Santo,” and the Santa Barbara festivities
celebrated in December.
